Maine Police Pull Man's Body From Waters Off Portland

Police: May be man who disappeared in January while with friends

Officials say police divers have pulled a body from the waters off of an Old Port marina, in Portland, Maine, and have tentatively identified the victim as a Saco Maine man last seen leaving a bar with friends early New Year's Day.

Portland Police Lt. James Sweatt says officials believe the body is that of 23-year-old James Dyer, who was last seen by friends as they all left the Pearl nightclub in Portland's Old Port early Jan. 1. When his friends turned around, Dyer was gone.

Sweatt says the body was taken to the medical examiner's office to determine positive identification and cause of death. He said the body was first spotted at about 9 a.m. Saturday near Dimillo's Marina on Commercial Street.

Police launched a criminal investigation soon after Dyer's disappearance.
