Classes are closed at Bonny Eagle High School in Standish, Maine, Tuesday, after someone vandalized the school.

School officials say the vandals broke into the school through the roof hatch.

The vandals emptied fire extinguishers from the third floor to the first floor down a stairwell. They also dumped the fridge in the teacher's wing.

The damage happened in a short period of time and the security system was activated when the vandals entered the hallway.

The Cumberland County Sheriffs Department confirms the suspects were recorded on security cameras, and that they are "associated with the district."

Nothing was stolen from the school, but the damage is expected to take all day to clean.

Parents want to know why the building wasn't better secured, and say problems have plagued the school district in recent years.

"Bonny Eagle is in the news again," lamented Lisa Good, who has a son at the high school.

In recent months, MSAD 6 Superintendent Frank Sherburne has come under fire for hiring his son, Zachariah Sherburne, as an Ed. Tech in the district, without state credentials. Zachariah Sherburne allegedly impregnated an underage student from a different school before he started working at his father's district.

The hire would be contrary to the district's policy regarding nepotism, and parents have been calling for the Sherburne to resign, or be fired.

"I am strongly thinking about pulling my kids out of the school system," said parent Victoria Mathies, who has a daughter in the high school. "I question the safety of the school. I am pretty much done with the whole drama scene, with everything here."

The School Board has called a special meeting Tuesday night at 7pm. Some of it will be held in private, as the board consults legal counsel.
