Friday's snow storm comes too little too late for several winter events and activities in Maine.
Organizers of the U.S. National Toboggan Championships cancelled toboggan races for Friday, and hope to salvage some of the event later in the weekend.
The long stretch of mild weather made ice and snow conditions too poor for the chute.
The event in Camden draws around 6,000 people to the region each year.
In Gray, the Crystal Lake Ice Fishing Derby has been cancelled for the first time in the event's history. Organizers had tried to postpone it, and a "rain date" had been set for Feb. 13. But the ice was too thin to safely have hundreds of expected participants, and the event had to be called off.
"It's a big loss for us," said Scottie Bragdon, who works at Dag's Bait & Tackle shop in Auburn.
The shop supplies many of the derby participants, and business doubles the weekend of the Crystal Lake Ice Fishing Derby.

"We would rather lose a little money than have people get hurt," said Bragdon.
Farther north, in Greenville, the Wilderness Sled Dog Race has been postponed. Rain and warm temperatures have left trails bare. Organizers hope to hold the race on Feb. 27 instead.
Ski resorts are celebrating the return of snow, and hope it will help them have a busy February Vacation week.
"The season so far has been a slow start to say the least," said Scott Shanaman, who recently took over the ownership of the Lost Valley Ski Resort in Auburn.
"It certainly has not been the most ideal winter to take over a ski area," he said.
