Maine State Police: 81-Year-Old Dies in Moped Crash in Alfred

An 81-year-old Maine man on a moped was killed when he was involved in a crash with a car in Alfred, according to state police.

Russell Faxon, of Lebanon, died at the scene of the crash on Route 202, which happened Monday afternoon.

The driver of the other car involved, identified as 65-year-old Acton resident Laura Melisi, was trying to turn left into an ice cream stand at the time, police said.

A preliminary investigation into the crash has found that Faxon, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was allegedly following a large box truck, blocking himself from Melisi's view as she was turning left.

Melisi and a passenger in her car were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
