Maine State Prison Inmate Pleads Guilty to Murder

The inmate is accused of stabbing another inmate 87 times

A Maine State Prison inmate accused of stabbing another inmate 87 times has pleaded guilty to murder.

Richard Stahursky's guilty plea came as jury selection was supposed to get underway on Monday.

Stahursky, who'd planned to use an insanity defense, was charged in the fatal attack on 37-year-old Micah Boland in the Maine State Prison. He told investigators he was angry that Boland had ratted on him and caused him to lose a prison job as a hallway worker.

Police say Stahursky, who was originally sentenced to nearly 20 years for armed robbery, used two makeshift knives in the February 2014 attack. He'd also been convicted of two separate inmate stabbings and for setting a fire in the prison.
