Mainers Voting in Congressional, Legislative Primaries

Legislative primaries will determine who's on the November ballot as the major political parties battle for control of the Legislature

Maine Democrats and Republicans are voting in congressional and legislative primaries.

Republicans Ande Smith of North Yarmouth and Mark Holbrook of Brunswick are facing off Tuesday in the only contested congressional primary. They're vying to unseat Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree.

Legislative primaries will determine who's on the November ballot as the major political parties battle for control of the Legislature. The House is currently controlled by Democrats, the Senate by Republicans.

Republican Gov. Paul LePage has endorsed GOP primary candidates like Bowdoin business owner Guy Lebida, who's challenging Sen. Linda Baker of Topsham.

Democrats are competing for seats left vacated by several top Democratic state senators, including Sen. Justin Alfond of Portland, the minority leader.
