Man Abused Girlfriend's 2-Year-Old Son: Plainville Police

Plainville police have arrested a man accused of abusing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

According to Lt. Nicholas Mullins, Jacob Matthews, 20, of Maple Street in Plainville, faces charges of risk of injury to a minor, cruelty to persons, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Police said the child’s mother told them on October 6 she was concerned Matthews, who lived in her home, may be physically abusing her son. Matthews is not the child’s father.

Officers reported the child had bruises on his face, head, hips, and genitalia. Connecticut Children’s Medical Center determined the injuries were consistent with child abuse, police said.

Matthews was arrested Tuesday and is currently held on a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on October 19.

The child is currently under Department of Children and Families care.
