A federal indictment has been handed down against a 45-year-old man who police say lost his left hand when a homemade pipe bomb detonated outside his Northfield, Vermont, home.
The Burlington Free Press reports that Mark McCloud was indicted last week with knowingly possessing a "destructive device" not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
A federal complaint accused McCloud of possessing and transferring the explosives. His indictment included the first charge. McCloud will enter a plea Monday in Burlington federal court.
The charges stem from a Dec. 9 blast that injured McCloud, his pregnant wife and others.
In a statement posted on YouTube confirmed by a state prosecutor, McCloud says he received the devices from a family friend and was unaware of their power.
