Man Accused of Mailing Cyanide Due in Court

Sidney Kilmartin of Windham is due in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Tuesday

A Maine man accused of mailing cyanide to a British resident will soon be arraigned on charges stemming from a new indictment.

Sidney Kilmartin of Windham is due in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Tuesday. He previously pleaded not guilty to mailing injurious articles to Andrew Denton of Hull, England.

Kilmartin was indicted in December on charges of mailing injurious articles resulting in death, mail and wire fraud, witness tampering and witness retaliation. He is accused of mailing the cyanide to keep Denton from telling investigators about Kilmartin's wire and mail fraud scheme.

Investigators say Kilmartin advertised and mailed a substance he claimed was cyanide to several suicidal people. The substance was actually salt.

Kilmartin's attorney did not return a call for comment.
