Man Accused of Murdering Mother of His Kids Held Without Bail

Alvin Huggins made his first court appearance on Thursday, but did not enter a plea

A man charged with fatally stabbing the mother of his two children in their Woonsocket, Rhode Island,  apartment has been held without bail.

Alvin Huggins made his first court appearance on Thursday, but did not enter a plea. His court-appointed attorney did not comment.

Authorities say the 31-year-old Huggins stabbed 28-year-old Yanira Flores in the chest in their home on Willow Street on Tuesday. She later died at Landmark Medical Center. Huggins was captured in Boston on Wednesday.

Police say the couple's two children, ages 6 and 4, were home at the time but it's unclear what they witnessed. They are now in the custody of relatives.

Authorities say Huggins has a criminal record and was on parole at the time of the stabbing.
