Man Arrested After 4-Hour Standoff

Police arrested a Winthrop, Maine, man who allegedly held police on a standoff after threatening to kill a woman.

Police have arrested a Winthrop man they allege threatened to kill a woman, and then held off police during a four-hour standoff.

Police say 44-year-old Joseph Finch was arrested without violence early Sunday after he left his home and tried to re-enter it.

Finch is being held at Kennebec County Jail pending arraignment on a charge of domestic violence terrorizing.

Police say it started at about 10 p.m. Saturday when Finch allegedly threatened to use a handgun to kill a woman who lived in the same home.

The Maine State Police Tactical and Negotiation Team was called in and a negotiator communicated with Finch by loudspeaker and phone.
