Man Beaten With Bat, Stabbed, Denies Police Help

Dante Neves was suffering from stab wounds and blunt force injuries

Providence, Rhode Island, police say an 18-year-old man declined their help after he took a baseball bat beating and was stabbed.

The Providence Journal reports Dante Neves was suffering from stab wounds and blunt force injuries when they arrived at a street corner at around 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

Neves refused to speak to police about the altercation and said he would "handle this myself." He was later taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Witnesses said Neves had been sitting in a car with a woman in Neutaconkanut Park when an unknown number of men smashed the car's windows, stabbed Neves several times and beat him with bats, the Journal reports.

The men fled in a car; the woman walked away on foot.
