A Rhode Island man has been charged with sex trafficking of a minor.
Carlos Brens, 26, of Providence was pulled over during a routine traffic stop in Warwick on Sept. 14. Police noticed a 15-year-old girl in his vehicle.
Based on the suspicious circumstances, the officer contacted the juvenile's mother, who was not familiar with Brens. Authorities returned the girl to her home, after noticing several indictors of a possible human trafficking situation.
An investigation followed, and warrants were issued for Brens.
On Oct. 28, Brens was taken into custody as the result of a routine motor vehicle stop. He was ordered held without bail and will appear in Kent County District Court Thursday.
Brens has also been charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, and one count of third-degree sexual assault.
