Man Charged in Killing Changes Plea to Guilty

Jun Di Lin pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault with a dangerous weapon in the 2011 death of Tony Woo in Ipswich, Mass.

One of three men charged in the killing of a popular Ipswich restaurant owner three years ago pleaded guilty to charges including manslaughter and agreed to testify against his co-defendants, prosecutors said.

Jun Di Lin, 32, of Malden, faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced in March after pleading guilty Monday to his role in the September 2011 beating and stabbing death of Shui Keung "Tony" Woo of Quincy.

Woo, 62, was slain in the Majestic Dragon, the Ipswich restaurant he owned. Woo would often sleep in the restaurant after a long day rather than making the long drive home to Quincy, said his sons, who appeared in court.

Lin, a cab driver, drove the other two suspects to the restaurant, prosecutors said. The three of them entered through a skylight and found Woo sleeping on a cot next to the safe.

Woo was beaten with a crowbar and stabbed, and left to die on the floor.

Lin was tied to the death by his DNA on a baseball cap he had worn to disguise himself that was left at the scene and by GPS evidence from his cab.

"They didn't just take what they could steal. They found my dad and beat him with heavy objects, and they beat and tortured him as if he wasn't a person," Edwin Woo, one of Tony Woo's sons, said in court.

Two other defendants face first-degree murder charges and are scheduled to go to trial next month.
