Man Charged in String of Armed Robberies

George Bliss was held without bail after pleading not guilty

Pittsfield, Massachusetts, police have arrested a man they allege is responsible for a string of armed robberies of area businesses in the past month.

The Berkshire Eagle reports
that George Bliss was held without bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday to six counts of armed and masked robbery.

Prosecutors say the 30-year-old Bliss robbed six businesses, including convenience stores and gas stations, between Dec. 23 and Jan. 24.

They say he used a BB gun and had an accomplice. No one was hurt in the robberies, but in at least one case a store clerk reported having a gun pointed in his face.

Bliss' court-appointed attorney said it was troubling that his client may have given statements to police without having a lawyer present.
