Man Charged with Sexually Assaulting 3 Women He Met Online

James A. Banks faces numerous felony level charges

A Portsmouth, New Hampshire, man is facing charges that he sexually assaulted three women he met online.

James A. Banks, 21, of 107 Richards Avenue, was arrested on Thursday after several weeks of investigation. He was being held at York County Jail in Maine as a fugitive from justice on Friday afternoon.

Once he returns to New Hampshire, he will be charged with three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, two counts of second degree assault, one count of kidnapping, two counts of criminal restraint, one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and numerous other misdemeanor level crimes.

Portsmouth Police said Banks sexually assaulted three adult female victims. It is believed that he contacted each of the victims through a social media site and convinced them to meet him in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Police Capt. Mike Schwartz would not name the website, but said all three women were contacted using the same site. He said police are still looking into whether he might have used other sites as well.

The investigation began in January and is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Kristyn Bernier at 603-610-7529.
