Man Convicted of Killing Informant Seeks New Trial

William True, of Lewiston, is seeking to have his conviction thrown out or be granted a new trial

A Maine man convicted last year of killing a Lewiston resident who prosecutors say told police about his involvement in a burglary case is challenging his conviction.

The Sun Journal reports 21-year-old William True, of Lewiston, is seeking to have his conviction thrown out or be granted a new trial.

True's attorney, James Howaniec, says prosecutors presented evidence suggesting that True's footprint had been found at the murder scene, despite a trial judge's decision to remove the image from evidence the jury could consider.

True was convicted in Androscoggin County Superior Court in December of killing 20-year-old Romeo Parent, of Lewiston. He has not been sentenced.

Twenty-seven-year-old Michael McNaughton, also of Lewiston, was also convicted of Parent's murder last year. He is also challenging his conviction.
