Man Convicted of Threatening to Kill Relative

Philip Smith was sentenced to one year in prison, but the sentence was suspended pending completion of one year of probation

A Providence, Rhode Island, man has been placed on probation after he was found guilty of threatening to kill a relative in Richmond.

The Westerly Sun reports that 37-year-old Philip Smith was found guilty Wednesday. He was sentenced to one year in prison, but the sentence was suspended pending completion of one year of probation.

According to police, Smith was arrested twice in a single week in late July after he threatened to kill a relative and was later spotted driving by the person's home. He was charged with two counts of domestic disorderly conduct and one of domestic simple assault and battery.

Police say Smith threatened the relative then left, only to return a short time later to push the victim to the ground and threaten to kill the person.
