A Maine man died on Sunday after capsizing his canoe.

Paul Malicky, 57, of Alton had gone out into a pond to tend his bait fish traps.

As he returned to shore, he apparently fell when exiting his canoe. His wife called 911, but by the time help arrived, Malicky had already drifted from shore and gone underwater.

A search of the pond was conducted immediately. His body was recovered.

    The case remains under investigation.
