Man Dies From Complications After Police Use Stun Gun on Him

A 71-year-old Maine man died Saturday night from complications after being shot by police with a stun gun.

According to affiliate WCSH, Belfast resident Dennis Ward was pronounced dead at Waldo County General Hospital around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police responded to Ward’s residence on Lincolnville Avenue after reports of a domestic incident and heard shots fired.

Ward approached the officers while armed and fired a shot into the ground. As he was told to drop his weapon, Ward raised the guns towards officers.

Ward was then stunned and fell from the stun gun clips. Another officer did fire his gun, but did not hit Ward.

Authorities say the stun gun hit caused a medical incident, and Ward did not recover.
