Man Drowns After Jumping From Boat Into Lake

Maine game wardens say pontoon boat had life jackets, but Jeffrey Mitchell wasn't wearing one

Maine game wardens say a Farmington man drowned after jumping from a pontoon boat into Wilson Lake in Wilton.

Wardens say a friend in the boat and two kayakers removed 63-year-old Jeffrey Mitchell from the water, but he was pronounced dead by medical personnel at a nearby boat landing.

Wardens say the boat had life jackets but that Mitchell wasn't wearing one when he decided to go swimming late Tuesday afternoon. The incident remains under investigation.
