Man Drowns in Eastham Great Pond

A man has died after he was pulled from Eastham Great Pond, according to authorities.

The unidentified man who was in his 50s is believed to have been underwater for more than a hour.

Eastham fire officials say divers found him 100 to 120 feet away from the shore in 15 feet deep, cold, murky water, and that he was out fishing and was on his way back in. He was transported to the hospital by Wellfleet Fire Department.

A witness on shore reportedly told fire officials the man called out for help from the water. A civilian with a drone is said to have been on the scene too.

Eastham's fire chief said that attempts were made to revive the man. The cause of death is currently believed to be accidental.

State and local authorities are investigating.
