Man Drowns in Forest Lake in Dalton, New Hampshire

The victim drowned on Thursday afternoon

A man drowned after struggling and going underwater on the west side of Forest Lake in Dalton, New Hampshire.

According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, the man attempted to swim from a raft to shore when he went underwater.

A family member tried to help him but was unable to reach him in time.

Other swimmers attempted to save the victim as well but were unable to.

The victim, identified as 72-year-old Edward Schofield of Aburndale, Mass., was located by a member of the Bethlehem Fire and Rescue team later but was unable to be revived.

Schofield and his wife were staying at a friend's house on Forest Lake at the time of the incident.

Fish and Game and the Office of the Medical Examiner are investigating the incident but no foul play is suspected.
