Man Faces Negligent Homicide Charge in Fatal Crash

Ryan Mears first charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated

A driver now faces new charges of negligent homicide and assault in a crash that resulted in a passenger's death over the weekend in Laconia, New Hampshire.

Ryan Mears, who had been hospitalized with serious injuries, was first charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated. He was released from the hospital Tuesday and arrested on the new charges. He's scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday; it was not immediately known if he had a lawyer.

Police said the car was travelling north on Parade Road early Sunday when it crossed the southbound lane and hit a tree, catapulting the car back onto the road.

A passenger in the rear seat, 28-year-old Tiffany Nieves, was pronounced dead at the scene. A front-seat passenger, 28-year-old Jeremy King of Atkinson, was hospitalized in serious condition.
