Man Found Dead Following Stabbing of Wife in Brockton

The man wanted in connection for the stabbing of his wife Friday night in Brockton, Massachusetts, was found dead on Saturday, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's office.

Brockton Police received a 911 call at 7:54 p.m. that a woman had been stabbed in the street outside of a home on Otis Street.

When first responders arrived, the woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where she is listed in critical but stable condition.

After a witness told police that the victim indicated that her husband, Antonio Goncalves, 46, had stabbed her, State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office began searching the neighborhood for the suspect.

Authorities also obtained surveillance video that showed both the victim and Goncalves.

With the help of local, state police, and a K-9 crew, police located Goncalves in a wooded area at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday, hanging from a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said police were able to locate the weapon used in the stabbing in the woods.
