Man Gets 5 Years for 2013 Bank Robbery

David A. Parker was sentenced Thursday to 63 months in prison

A 53-year-old Vermont man is going to prison for more than five years for his conviction of robbing a South Burlington bank.

David A. Parker, of Burlington, was sentenced Thursday to 63 months in prison for the November 7, 2013 robbery of the Peoples United Bank.

Parker's attorney had asked U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss to sentence Parker to 40 months in prison arguing that Parker suffered from mental health and substance abuse problems.

Prosecutors sought the longer sentence because Parker has a long criminal history.

Parker pleaded guilty in April to robbing the Peoples Bank. He has been in custody since his arrest shortly after the crime.
