Police stopped a man for a seatbelt violation and said they found guns, knives, drugs and more.

Wallingford police pulled a man over for a seatbelt violation and said they found loaded guns, knives, drugs, handcuffs, as well as Yale and Connecticut veterans affairs patches and more.

Police said they stopped a white 2005 GMC Sierra at 1:20 p.m. on Thursday and suspected that the driver, Mark Depaola Jr., 29, of Wallingford, was under the influence of drugs, so they told him to get out of his car, police said.

Depaola had a gun on him, according to police, who said he has a valid Connecticut pistol permit.
Inside the car police also found three loaded guns, three unregistered loaded high-capacity magazines, several knives and 1.5 grams of powder cocaine and methadone.

Police also said they also found a set of handcuffs, Yale and Connecticut Veterans Affairs patches, as well as Go Pro-style cameras, but no criminal charges were filed in connection with those items.

Depaola was taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, carrying of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an officer, a seat belt violation and three counts of Illegal possession of large capacity magazines.

Depaola was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is due in court in Meriden on Nov. 13.
