    Reservoir Road remained closed for hours in Vernon as investigators pieced together the events that sent a man to the hospital in critical condition. (Published Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016)

    A man who was hit by a car on Route 31, near Sunrise Drive, in Vernon around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday is in critical, but stable, condition at Hartford Hospital, according to police.

    Police identified the pedestrian as Richard Kirk, 42, of Sunrise Drive in Vernon.

    Police have also identified the driver as a 38-year-old Manchester man, but no charges have been filed and NBC Connecticut is not identifying him.

    Police said he remained at the scene and is cooperating with  the investigation.
