Man Killed After Getting Caught in Eddy in Deerfield River

A man has died after getting caught in an eddy while swimming in a Massachusetts river.

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office says the 30-year-old man was swimming with friends in the Deerfield River off McClelland Farms Road in Deerfield on Saturday afternoon when he was caught.

The man was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police aren't releasing the man's name pending notification of his family.

Cause of death will be determined by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. No foul play is suspected.

The incident remains under investigation.

Deerfield is located in western Massachusetts, about 30 miles north of Springfield.
