Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing Bath Salts

Officials say a Maine man has pleaded guilty to charges of bath salts distribution and obstruction of justice.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Christopher Coombs entered the plea Tuesday in a Portland court. He faces up to 20 years in prison and fines on each charge.

Authorities say officers observed a delivery of about 500 grams of synthetic drug bath salts to the 43-year-old Westbrook man's home on Oct. 31. The package had been intercepted by customs agents. Coombs was arrested after he accepted it.

After his arrest, authorities say he told his wife to delete emails connected to the investigation.

He will be sentenced after completion of a pre-sentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.
