Man Pleads Not Guilty in Death of 3-Month-Old Son

State prosecutors say 24-year-old Elias Romero was arraigned in Providence Superior Court on Wednesday and ordered held without bail

A Rhode Island man has pleaded not guilty in the death of his infant son.

State prosecutors say 24-year-old Elias Romero was arraigned in Providence Superior Court on Wednesday and ordered held without bail. He's been in custody since his July arrest.

Cranston police say they responded to Romero's home to reports of a baby not breathing. The 3-month-old infant, named Giovanni, was taken to the Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence. He died after two days.

Police said at the time that doctors said the baby appeared to have suffered abusive head trauma, which is more commonly known as shaken baby syndrome.

Romero's next court date is Nov. 14. It couldn't immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
