A Vermont man has pleaded not guilty to charges he sexually assaulted a 53-year-old woman last year.
The Caledonian Record reports a judge ordered 32-year-old Japheth Medley held without bail in an Orleans court. He is charged with sexual assault without consent.
Police say they began investigating after a Newport City woman reported that she'd been raped on Oct. 15, 2014.
Police said she told them she was assaulted by the North Troy man at a friend's house after they had been drinking.
Medley, who has a criminal record, is facing at least three years in prison and up to a life sentence if he's convicted.
