Man Sentenced for Collecting Mom's Social Security Benefits
Police have arrested a Wichita Falls couple on charges they tried to hire someone to kill their daughter's boyfriend in a dispute over money.

Federal prosecutors say a 55-year-old Lyman, Maine, man was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for Social Security fraud.

Prosecutors say Mark. J. LaPierre was also sentenced to two years of supervised release and ordered to pay $38,212 in restitution. He pleaded guilty in April.

Court records say LaPierre's mother received Social Security survivor benefits when his father died. LaPierre's mother died in November 2010 and the benefits continued to be deposited into LaPierre's joint bank account with his mother.

Records say LaPierre didn't notify the Social Security Administration of his mother's death or that survivor benefits continued to be deposited into the account. The judge in the case says the offense continued for more than three years.
