Man Sentenced to 60 Years in Delivery Driver Shooting

A Providence judge on Thursday told 38-year-old Willie "Chill Will" Washington he fit the "very definition of incorrigible" as he sentenced him to 60 years

A Smithfield, Rhode Island, man convicted last year of shooting a delivery driver near Providence College is headed to prison.

A Providence judge on Thursday told 38-year-old Willie "Chill Will" Washington he fit the "very definition of incorrigible" as he sentenced him to 60 years.

Washington was found guilty in December of charges including carrying a firearm without a license and discharge of a firearm while committing a crime of violence.

Prosecutors say Washington had confronted the driver of a car parked near the Providence College campus on Nov. 15, 2014. Washington opened fire, striking Rudy Basquez Jr. in the arm.

The then-29-year-old Providence resident was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Police later arrested Washington after a chase.

Washington's lawyer says he will appeal.
