No Bail for Man Shot in Officer-Involved Shooting
    William Santiago

A Massachusetts man faced a judge Tuesday in connection with an officer-involved shooting over the weekend.

William Santiago, 35, of Chelmsford was arraigned in Lowell District Court on two counts of domestic assault and battery on a household or family member, threatening to commit a crime in connection with an alleged domestic assault and assault on police officers.

The judge ordered Santiago to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Aug. 3. It's unclear if he has an attorney.

Santiago is accused of attacking a woman in a home on Clover Hill Road in Chelmsford Sunday morning, and attacking responding officers with his fists and a thrown hammer.

Police have said they have responded to this particular home a number of times within the last six months.

One of the responding officers first used a Taser to try to subdue him in the melee, and when that didn't work, another responding officer fired two shots, hitting Santiago in the leg and grazing his head, police said. The names of the officers who used the Taser and fired on Santiago have not been released.

Santiago was eventually taken to a Boston-area hospital for treatment, and later that afternoon, he allegedly tried to attack an officer with a pair of hidden surgical scissors as the officer left Santiago's hospital room.

The Middlesex district attorney's office said Santiago is expected to face more charges.

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing.
