Man Stabbed in Face After Fight in Pit Bull Cage

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Thursday in Glenburn, Maine

Police say a Maine man was stabbed in the face at his home around 9 p.m. Thursday after getting into a fight with another man after they both crawled into a pit bull's dog cage.

Maine State Police said Alan Hartley, 38, of Glenburn, is being treated for a stab wound at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Jesse Merritt, 25, of Charleston, the man alleged to have stabbed Hartley, has been charged with elevated aggravated assault and is being held at Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

Police said the two men know each other and got into a fight after they crawled into a pit bull's cage. The dog is owned by Hartley and is kept at his Page Road home. They said it is not clear why the two men were fighting in the cage.

The dog was not involved in the altercation.
