Police: Man Stabs 3 Members of Extended Family on Christmas

Police said the motive was unclear.

A man drove from Vermont to Maine late Friday night and stabbed three members of his extended family, police said.

Authorities said it was unclear why Alton Britch, 44, of Wheelock, Vermont, drove to the West Lebanon Road home in Lewiston, Maine. Police said he was being restrained by members of the family when officers arrived and arrested him on aggravated assault charges. He was transported to York County Jail early Saturday morning.

Three members of the family suffered stab wounds and were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New Hampshire, with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they recovered the knife at the scene.
