Man in Custody After Shooting of Sleeping Child in Chelsea, Massachusetts

A man is in custody after a 13-year-old boy was shot while he slept in his bed Wednesday night in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

Police confirm 19-year-old Christian Garcia was apprehended by Massachusetts State Police in Andover Thursday.

Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes announced on Twitter that Garcia would be booked by state police before being transferred to his department.

The victim, who has been identified as Juan Lopez Delgado, was shot in the shoulder, according to police. His cousin tells necn the boy was asleep in bed at his Bellingham Street home at the time.

The bullet, his cousin says, came through the window and hit him in the shoulder.

The child was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and is in stable condition. He underwent surgery and is expected to be OK.

Garcia is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning at Chelsea District Court. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
