A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to defrauding Home Depot of more than $35,000 by returning items he never purchased.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says 56-year-old Robert Dooley, of Salem, entered the plea Wednesday in a Boston federal court to 10 counts of wire fraud. He's scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 15.
Prosecutors say Dooley conducted the scheme at least 40 times between January and February at Home Depot stores in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine and Massachusetts.
They say he took items off the shelves and then brought them to the return desk in exchange for store credit.
Dooley was sentenced in 2007 to five years in prison after being convicted of defrauding Home Depot of more than $330,000 in a similar scheme.
