Massachusetts Man Dead in High-Speed Maine Crash

Maine State Police say a Massachusetts man is dead after a high-speed crash in the town of Norway.

Police say 36-year-old William Stella of Stoneham, Massachusetts, died when his car slammed head-on into another vehicle and burst into flames late Friday night.

According to necn affiliate WCSH, witnesses told police Stella was doing "360 burnouts" in the parking lot of Crazy 8's bar in South Paris.

People at the bar said Stella got agitated and fled. An Oxford County deputy had begun pursuing him. Police say the deputy had ended his pursuit of Stella, who took off at a high speed, before the 11:15 p.m. crash occurred.

Stella's car crashed into one driven by 42-year-old Jennifer Clough of Norway, who was hospitalized for treatment of what police say were critical but non-life-threatening injuries.
