Public schools in Boston are cancelled Friday due to the impending snowstorm, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation says they're expecting a "problematic" morning commute.
Thomas Tinlin of MassDOT says the timing of the storm is a concern.
"When the average commuter gets up, if you're a regular 9-5 person, you'll most likely see rain out your window," he said. "During that commute, it's going to turn to snow. Not only will it turn to snow, it could be upwards of an inch, to two inches per hour."
MassDOT is now urging people to take public transportation to unclog the highways, so they can clear them.
During last year's historic snowfall, the MBTA was plagued with problems.
To help matters, Thursday, the MBTA says trains will run or idle overnight to keep tracks clear and equipment running.
The city of Boston says by 6 a.m., there will be 500 trucks out treating the roads.

At this point, no snow emergency has been declared in Boston, so no space savers are allowed on the streets.
If you are are driving, MassDOT says to leave yourself plenty of time, and room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
They also say not to tail the plows and salters.
