    File - AP

A pipe that lost more than 600,000 gallons of water daily because of a leak in the city of Rutland, Vermont, has been fixed, but it's not exactly clear who's responsible for it.

The Rutland Herald reports the leak was found Saturday in a pipe near an auto dealership. Owner Phil Alderman said Monday he had the weeklong leak fixed to get water flowing to his business. He said he paid to have the pipe installed, but it ran under the state right of way; he didn't consider it his connection.

Public Works Commissioner Jeffrey Wennberg said everything after the valve off the main is the property owner's responsibility. The matter remained unresolved after it was discovered the town of Rutland put a fire hydrant next to Alderman's property.
