Minor League Team Denies Pulling Lobster Due to PETA

A Maine minor league baseball team is denying a widely-reported claim that the club is pulling lobster from its ballpark menu because of the group's efforts

A Maine minor league baseball team is denying a widely-reported claim from a Virginia-based animal rights group that the club is pulling Linda Bean's Perfect Maine Lobster from its ballpark menu because of the group's efforts.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says in a Monday press release that the Portland Sea Dogs are dumping Linda Bean's because of a PETA investigation that "showed lobsters and crabs who were writhing after being mutilated."

Sea Dogs spokesman Chris Cameron says PETA's release is "misleading." He says the ballpark will no longer be working with Linda Bean's, but the decision is "based on business reasons" and not PETA's pressure. He also says the company is finalizing a contract with a new lobster provider.

A spokeswoman for Linda Bean's declined to comment.
