A mother and daughter from western Massachusetts have avoided prison time after pleading guilty to writing phony prescriptions for opioid painkillers and other medications.
The mother, 49-year-old Theresa Coe, was sentenced Thursday in Hampshire Superior Court to two years of house arrest with GPS monitoring, followed by three years of probation. Her daughter, 27-year-old Toni Lobdell, was sentenced to 2 ½-years behind bars, but the entire sentence was suspended for seven years of probation.
Between them, the Easthampton residents faced 255 charges.
Prosecutors say Coe stole a prescription pad from a doctor's office where she once worked, and the pair wrote prescriptions to feed their addictions.
They were also ordered to pay restitution. Prosecutors say more than $3,250 in false prescriptions were billed to three insurance companies.
