Moose Running Free in Chicopee, Massachusetts

Police in Chicopee, Massachusetts are warning residents to keep an eye out for a moose that was spotted running through several area back yards on Wednesday morning.

Chicopee Police said they responded to two calls around 7 a.m. Wednesday. On the first call, a moose was stuck in a fence and was set free with assistance from Massachusetts Environmental Police. But the moose apparently decided to stay in the area, and has been spotted in the area of Fairview Avenue, Homer Street, Gladdu Avenue and Britton Street.

Chicopee Police said they are hoping the animal will simply return to the woods, but warned residents not to approach or attempt to feed the moose.

"Unlike the clown craze sweeping the nation, you do not want a moose chasing you," the police department wrote on Facebook. "It is not known if this is the same moose, or a close friend or relative, of the one that was recently located."

Just last week, Chicopee Police received numerous reports of a moose on the loose in the area of Westover Road.
