The mother of a teen girl who was sexually abused by her teacher has filed a lawsuit against the teacher and the Somerville, Massachusetts, School Committee.

Prosecutors said Alexandra Romanos raped the 13-year-old in her car and in her East Somerville Commmunity School classroom in 2013. It's a story the NBC Boston Investigators first revealed on Sunday.

Romanos was sentenced in 2014 and is now serving five years behind bars for rape of a child.

The lawsuit alleges that Romanos groomed the girl for months - giving her rides home from school, cheering her on at soccer games and hugging and touching her at school in plain view.

The girl's mother spoke exclusively with NBC Boston's Ally Donnelly. She said someone should have noticed the relationship and put a stop to it.

The NBC Boston Investigators found that more than 100 Massachusetts public school teachers have been disciplined or charged for sexual misconduct from January 2009 to September 2015.

The allegations and charges range from child pornography to teachers kissing, sexting, fondling students in the child’s home to rape.

The Somerville School Committee did not immediately return calls seeking comment on the lawsuit.
