Motorcyclist Killed on Way to NH Bike Week

Robert Locke, 36, lost control of his motorcycle while riding with a group of friends

Police say a motorcyclist from Long Island, New York, was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle in Alfred, Maine.

The crash killed 36-year-old Robert Locke of Lynbrook on Monday. Police say he lost control of his motorcycle on Route 111 while riding with a group of friends. They were headed for Laconia, New Hampshire, for the annual Motorcycle Week event.

Police say Locke swerved to avoid a vehicle and was thrown into the roadway. He died shortly after arriving at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. Police say he was wearing a helmet.

Locke's death is the fifth motorcycle death in the state this year, compared to 10 motorcycle deaths at this time last year.
