Motorist Arrested After Fatal Pedestrian Crash

Police in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, say a motorist was arrested after striking two pedestrians with a van, leaving one of the victims fatally injured.

Police in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, say a motorist was arrested after striking two pedestrians with a van, leaving one of the victims with fatal injuries.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. in the area of Route 28 near the Parkers River Bridge. One female and one male pedestrian were struck by a van, leaving them both in serious condition. 

The male victim, 62-year-old Kevin Regan of Westfield, was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital. The second victim, 62-year-old Lynda Cavanaugh of Westfield, was flown to a Boston hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

According to police, the operator was arrested after they determined he was intoxicated. Paul Dennehy, 55, of South Yarmouth was charged with OUI motor vehicle homicide and OUI with serious injury. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Dec. 29.

This is the second fatal crash in Yarmouth within 24 hours. In both accidents, alcohol was a factor.
