Vermont State Police are investigating after a motorist, allegedly under the influence of drugs, led police on a chase in the town of Berlin.

On Saturday around 9:20 p.m., police responded to multiple reports of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 89. When police arrived on scene, the suspect's vehicle had already forced another vehicle off the roadway.

The Berlin Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Department, Hartford Police Department, and Vermont State Police in Middlesex and Royalton helped to stop the vehicle. Police attempted to stop the vehicle across several miles before they deployed spikes. The vehicle stopped a short time later after striking another vehicle.

The motorist, identified as 23-year-old Savannah Lapan of Vershire, was taken into custody and transported to Central Vermont Hospital for a leg injury. She was charged with driving under the influence, attempting to elude, gross careless and negligent operating, and leaving the scene of an accident. Lapan is held on $2,500 bail and will appear in court on April 13.
