Multiple departments spent hours battling a brush fire at Meshomasic State Forest in Portland Sunday.

The Portland Fire Department says crews responded around 5 p.m. to multiple calls for smoke coming from the state forest. The smoke was seen as far away as Farmington. It took crews about three hours to contain the blaze, and crews were on scene extinguishing hot spots until around 10 p.m.

About 15 acres were burned. The Forestry Division of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will remain on scene overnight to monitor.

Crews from the Portland Fire Department, Middletown Fire Department, Westfield Fire Department, Glastonbury Fire Department, and East Hampton Fire Department were all called to the scene. No injuries were reported.

This was one of several brush fires that cropped up throughout the weekend. DEEP declared fire danger high for both Saturday and Sunday and prohibited opening burning.
